Have you ever met a friend’s pet with the same name as your own furry friend’s name? It is possible that you have fallen into the trend of naming your dog or cat one of the most popular pet names. Setting the trend for our canine and feline best friends can come from a variety of places, but most stem from pop-culture icons, scrumptious foods or individual traits. Find out if your pet fits the A-list of popular dog and cat names!
Dog Names
Dogs have been man’s, and woman’s best friend for millennia. Choosing a name for them does more than just give a dog his label, it tells quite a bit about your own personality, likes and ideas. When you introduce your dog to strangers, friends, families and strangers during your walks together you are also telling those people a bit about yourself, all because of your dog’s name! This can spark new friendships and bonds.
Thus far, the two most popular dog names are Bella and Max. These two names have been leading the count for a number of years. Since the popular book and movie series Twilight became such a big hit among fans of all ages, dogs began to appear with the name of the main protagonist, Bella. Max tends to be a standard ideal towards most male dogs, and continues to be the chosen name for many canine companions. However, in the survey conducted by VPI Pet Insurance, females far outnumbered males and Bella took the top spot of all the names, both male and female. After the two number one names, the runners up are made up of fun Bailey for boys and pretty Lucy for the girls. Third place names are Charlie for a handsome boy and Molly for your little girl.
At the bottom 100 of the website’s list of popular pet names lies the girl’s name Dakota and Henry for the fellas.
Cat Names
Do you call out, “Here, kitty kitty,” to your furry feline friend? Or, did you provide him with a stylish, fun, or cute name that fits his or your personality? The most popular cat names don’t fall far from the list of most picked dog names. Number one is Bella, just as with our canines. Number two is Tigger, followed by Molly at number three according to Cuteness.com.
In contrast, Catnamesmeow.com has their number one most popular female cat name as Sassy. This is most likely due to the highly acclaimed and loved 1993 film Homeward Bound in which the Himalayan cat, named Sassy, lived up to her name as she always gave her two canine traveling companions a piece of her mind. Misty comes up as second, perhaps because the name brings about thoughts of a quiet, peaceful and intelligent companion.
Their number one most popular name for male cats is Max, followed up by Sam. Both of these names have played a great role in numerous pop-culture phenomena in many genres. While this probably had a great deal to do with their placement at the top of a popular cat name list, they also seem to just plainly fit the male cat’s persona.
